Resorts in AUSTRIALech is a superb medieval village, set amidst the Austrian Alps in the vast and beautiful Arlberg region. The skiing and snowboarding are truly amazing, offering a wide variety of terrain to meet all levels from beginners to experts alike. The lift system is vast and many are interconnected with neighbouring Zürs. Following developments in 2017 on the Flexenbahn cableway and the new Trittkopfbahnen I and II and Albonbahn II, all the resorts in Arlberg can now be reached on skis. Lech is ideal for families, offering a great Kinderclub for children from three to five years old to introduce the little ones to the joy of skiing.
Considered to be one of the top three resorts in Europe for serious skiers, the varied terrain of mighty St. Anton should be on every expert and adventurous intermediate skier or snowboarder’s list. That said, there is also much to be enjoyed by beginners and the less adventurous. Part of the Arlberg Ski Circus, the area is the largest ski area in Austria, with the Flexenbahn linking St. Anton with St. Christoph, Stube, Lech and Zürs, as well as Ströcken and Warth. It is famous for its spectacular beauty, its reliable snow conditions and its infamous après ski! Finish your day with a slopeside drink at the lively Mooserwirt or Krazy Kanguruh, before continuing the party in town. St. Anton itself is a real ski village with plenty of charm, sophisticated spas and a cosmopolitan atmosphere. The village is traditionally Austrian, with wooden chalets, shops and bars along the pedestrian-zoned Main Street. Sankt Anton Bahnhof is on the main Zürich-Vienna train line making the resort very easy to access.
As part of the expansive Ski Arlberg region that is Europe’s largest ski area, Zürs is situated only a short distance from Lech. The Flexenbahn lift system which opened in the winter of 16/17, now links Zürs and Lech with St Anton and Stuben, making for an extraordinary day of exploration. Zürs offers excellent skiing and riding across the resort and is particularly well-known for its off-piste skiing. Zürs offers a very high standard of accommodation, with most being ski-in/ski-out. It is a little more peaceful in the evenings than neighbouring Lech, with the village still offering a variety of fine dining restaurants and great après ski.
