 Charming, elegant and car-free, Megeve was founded upon a medieval 13th century cillage and developed by the Rothschild family into France's answer to St Mortiz. The cobbled streets ooze Gallic ambiance and are fringed with ritzy boutiques, antique shops, galleries and brasseries. A mecca for foodies, the village has some superb restaurants, three of which are Michelin starred. Part of the massive Evasion Mont Blanc ski area, the slopes here are great for beginners and intermediates, whilst the slopes of Mont Joux and Mont Joly offer lots of challenging terrain for the expert skier.
